How to Design a Website Menu

As part of our mission to help customers customize their websites further, we have released several updates that make editing the main menu of your website even easier. Some customers only want a single page website, others want a website with many pages, and there are always reasons to want to link to external pages from your website too. With our latest release, you can now achieve all of these things, as well as choosing the order that your menu links appear in, which allows you to craft the perfect navigation menu for your website.

This article will discuss the range of options for customizing the design of your website menu and provide some examples of the use-cases for these specific options.

Removing Links that Aren’t Needed

Many customers prefer to remove the ‘Contact’ page as there are several contact forms on the default layout of several templates, including the popular Service Warrior 3. In which case you can easily do this from the ‘Main Menu’ option within the Website menu in Dazzly. By selecting ‘Contact’ and pressing ‘Remove’ you can simply remove the menu link to the Contact page.

Adding Links to Internal Website Pages

Internal links have many uses. One popular use is to highlight a particular Article or a Custom Page that has been written, such as an important announcement or crucial information about your services. To add an additional link to a page within your website simply click on the Main Menu option within the Website menu of Dazzly, click ‘Add Page’, select the desired page (Article, Custom Page, or any other page) from the drop-down menu, enter some Menu Text and click ‘Save’.

Adding Links to External Pages – such as Social Media

Within the ‘Social Pages’ section there are many possible places to automatically put your social media links within your website. In some cases, customers may wish to have a ‘Visit our Facebook Page’ menu link. This is easily achieved by clicking the ‘Main Menu’ option with Dazzly’s website page, clicking ‘Add Page’, selecting an ‘External Page’ and entering the full URL for your social media page (for example: https://www.facebook.com/myfacebookpagename). This will create a simple link to your Facebook page.

Adding Submenus to your Main Menu design

Our Main Menu design tool is not just limited to single-level menus. There are many instances where you may wish to have a submenu and several options within that submenu. We detail two cases below that are commonly best solved by having a new page and submenu added to your existing menu in your website design.

Creating a Menu Design to show your office location

This is best explained by watching the below video demonstrating just how easy it is to add Single or Multiple office locations to your website. We understand that most New Zealand businesses may be run from their owner’s homes and likely do not have multiple locations, but it also serves as a good example to show how Main Menu and Submenu designs work within the Dazzly website builder software.

Creating a Menu Design to show your service area

First, create a Custom Page called ‘Service Area’ (we suggest adding simple information about your service area such as distance willing to travel and potentially links to other service area locations. Second, add another Custom Page with the name of the Service Area location (such as ‘Avondale’), we also recommend adding additional information such as areas within Avondale that you may/may not service. Third, open the Main Menu option within Dazzly’s website page. Fourth, select ‘Add Menu Link’ and first add the ‘Service Area’ custom page. Fifth, click ‘Add Subpage’ and select ‘Avondale’ to add the Avondale custom page under the ‘Service Area’ submenu. Finally, click Save to ensure that this all saves and it shows correctly within your Website Preview window.
